Painting can be quite mysterious, even magical. You start with an idea, a canvas, and a box of paints, and from that simple beginning amazing things begin to happen. Many authors say they let their characters lead the way when writing a novel or a play. Creating works of art works very much the same way, at least for me.
If you’re open to it, everything you put on a canvas will inform what happens next. As you explore the possibilities, an image begins to form, uncertainty fades away, and the direction you want to go becomes increasingly clear. And, if you’re very lucky and trust the process, something unique and quite beautiful might just emerge.
